The 2025 NACBS Annual Meeting

ELBOW research project leader Soile Ylivuori presents a paper at the 2025 North American Conference on British Studies in Montreal. The title of the presentation is ”Electric Fish, Embodiment, and Medical Knowledge
Circulation in the Georgian West Indies”.

Finnish Conference of History Research

ELBOW researcher Edna Huotari held a presentation in the pre-seminar of the seventh Finnish Conference of History Research. The theme of the pre-seminar was the history of sexuality, and Edna’s presentation title was ”Sähköinen seksuaalisuus – Otteita lääketieteellisen sähkön historiasta 1700- ja 1800-lukujen taitteesta”. At the same conference, Edna Huotari and Saara-Maija Kontturi presented ELBOW research project at the meeting of SHS Health History Division.

HCAS Workshop

Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies (HCAS) organizes the workshop called Embodied Knowledge in Helsinki. The purpose of the workshop is to explore the interdisciplinary intersections in medical humanities. ELBOW researchers Soile and Edna presented their papers on 14 March 2025.

ELBOW project participates the annual HEX conference, titled as ”Historicizing Experiences” in Tampere, Finland.

4–6 September 2024

ISCH Conference

ELBOW project had a panel in the annual ISCH conference with the title ”Medical electricity and embodied knowledge in the long eighteenth century”. In the panel, Edna and Stefan presented their papers and got feedback of them. The conference took place in Potsdam, Germany.

The Finnish Society for the History of Science and Learning (Suomen Oppihistoriallinen seura ry) organises an open event for introducing four research projects exploring the history of science and knowledge. One of these research projects is our ELBOW project, and our project leader Soile Ylivuori is giving a presentation of the project at the event.
