Our project leader Soile gave a presentation about our ELBOW project at HEX Conference, organised 11–13 March 2024 at the University of Tampere (Finland).

The theme of the conference this year was ”Memory, temporality, and experience”. Through representing our ELBOW-project, Soile explained how our project is studying the embodied experiences in the context of medical electricity.

Soile’s specific case study in this presentation dealt with Edward Hardwood and his suffering in eighteenth century. During their conference session on Wednesday 13 March, Soile shared the floor together with Experiencing Agony -project’s researchers Eva Johanna Holmberg and Clarice Säävälä. Thus, Soile’s presentation was a great example of the overlapping of these two projects, both lead by Soile.

”It was such a pleasure to present some of the early findings of ELBOW at the HEX 2024 history of experience conference. The expert audience was particularly interested in the role that vibrations played in 18th-century electric cures”, Soile shares her experience of the conference.
